Frequently asked questions

What is a word scramble?

A word scramble gives you the letters of a word in the wrong order and asks you to put them back. They turn up in newspaper puzzles, classroom worksheets and party games. Type the jumbled letters above and every word hiding in them comes back, longest first.

The puzzle says the answer is one word. Which result is it?

Look at the longest group first. If the scramble has seven letters, the answer is almost always in the 7 letter group — the shorter groups are the extra words those letters happen to contain.

Can I solve a scramble with a letter missing?

Yes. Put a question mark (?) or an asterisk (*) where the unknown letter goes and it will stand in for any letter.

How do I narrow a long list of results?

Use Starts with, Ends with or Length if you already know part of the answer. The Contains box takes an underscore as a gap, so E_O finds LEMON — handy when the puzzle shows you a letter or two.

Is this the same as an anagram solver?

Close, but not quite. This page lists every word your letters can make, including shorter ones. The Anagram Solver returns only the words that use all of them.
